Asia Argento is an Italian actress and film-maker who was born into the largest household. She has also pursued film and acting. The actress made her film debut at the age of nine in Sergio Citti's Sogni bisogni. At the age of eighteen, she was the star of Cristina Comencini's Zoo and a member of Michele Soavi's The Church. Red Wood Pigeon, the film in which she starred as Nanni Moretti's daughter came out a year after. But it came from Close Friends by Michele Placido which saw Asia's acting career take off. Cannes International Film Festival was a great achievement for the film. Daria Nicholodi was one of the most beloved actresses of Argento and played the role of an anorexic child searching for the killer. Asia was in Dario's The Phantom of the Opera, the third film she co-directed with her dad. Two of them included Trauma as well as The Stendhal Syndrome. Co-starring with Carlo Verdone in Perdiamoci di the view as Arianna, a girl with physical handicap. The complex and demanding part earned her an award: a David di Donatello Prize for Best Actress. In 1995, her work together with Michel Piccoli for Peter Del Monte's Compagna di viaggio won her an award from David diDonatello in addition to the Grolla d'oro. Asia started directing short films in 1994. She also was the director of an episode in the movie De Generazione. 1996 saw her make a documentary along with her dad. 1998 saw her direct AbelAsia about the famous director Abel Ferrara. This film received a prize from the Rome Film Festival. Asia began directing her debut feature film in 1999. The film was Scarlet Diva. In the film she also played the star and directed the script. The film debuted in May 2000 across Italy as well as around the world. It was the winner of a special award at Brooklyn's Williamsburg festival of film.
